About Alex Trusca
Hello all,
Alex Trusca here. I have created and currently run The Social Verdict.
Presently, I am a 2nd year Law student at the University of Manchester in England but reside in Mississauga, a suburb right outside of Toronto in Canada. Now that you know a little bit about me, let me tell you more why I decided to start this little blog/site.
I have lived in 4 countries on 3 different continents and am not even 20 years old. I have been lucky enough to experience many cultures and meet a many variety of people in a short time. Therefore, I always want to know what is going on in the parts of the world that I’ve lived in since they are a major part of who I’ve become. This explains my interest in world events and keeping up to date with world news. I am always interested in how the world works and why the events that take place so far away can have such a great impact in our lives. That is why I have always wanted to find out more about how the world works. This explains my interest in economics, politics, and business. It is also one of the big reasons I decided to study law, since our legal rights, responsibilities, and freedoms are at the core of how everything in our society is organized and operated.
Beyond all that, over the last few years, a new passion for helping the poor and achieving social equality has slowly become a big part of my life. That is why I chose the first post on the blog to be The Challenge of a Generation. I have participated in a few fundraising events over the last few years and this summer have even taken a volunteer trip to Tanzania, Africa. I truly believe in a moral obligation where everyone has to do something, anything, to make a positive difference in the world. We need to help those who cannot help themselves. I think social awareness is a key ingredient to that imperative because a lack of knowledge and understanding of the basic issues that cause poverty and social inequality is a step in the wrong direction. I will also be using this blog as a source to raise money for charitable purposes that have socially progressive goals.
Throughout history, there are many examples of social activism by young people having a massive impact in the course our world has taken. It only takes a few. Well, today there are more than a few people out there striving to make a difference. It is my hope that we join them in helping others by becoming socially aware individuals who try to make a positive impact in the world around us.
Our generation, dubbed Generation Y, will be faced with many global and potentially disastrous challenges that will need solutions. I envision these solutions, in order to be effective, will be on a global scale where every person will need to participate and make an impact. Overpopulation, scarcity of water, a global food shortage, AIDS, global warming, and massive social inequality are just some of the problems that we hear about in the media everyday. Will we be the generation we need to be? I truly believe we can and will be. Take that for what it’s worth but I hope that you will join me in doing our bit to ensure we do become that generation. It starts here and it starts with you.
Peace and love,
Alex Trusca
