Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in Canada. Enjoy the turkey-day long weekend! On to the news.

  • North Korea removed off terrorist list
North Korea has been removed off the United States list of terrorist states as part of a nuclear deal that will result in the North Koreans continuing nuclear disablement. The N. Koreans have also confirmed inspectors from the US will be allowed into the country to oversee the implementation of the deal.
  • Palin attacks Obama on abortion rights, calls him a radical
In an attempt to rally the conservative right at a campaign rally, Governor Palin said that Obama hopes that people “won’t notice how radical, absolutely radical his idea (on abortion) is on this” according to Reuters. Is she serious? Pro-choice is radical? Of course, because Republicans wishing to overturn Row v Wade is not radical at all. Poll update: Reuters/Zogby have Obama up 6 in their most recent poll. The sooner the election, the less we will have to hear of Sarah Palin’s ridiculous accusations (remember the “palling around” with terrorists comment?)
  • Obama contributions questioned
Questions about contributors to Barack Obama’s campaign have been raised after several contributors have mistakenly filled in donor forms online. Will these accusations stick or are they simply bogus? Time will tell.
  • World markets closed after brutal week, Europeans fighting to find the right deal
With the Dow closing this weekend down 22% in 8 days, similar to other losses across world markets in one of the worst trading weeks in world history, 15 European leaders using the Euro are meeting in Paris. They hope to come up with a solution that will ease pressure off the markets and establish a sense of calm in an attempt to restore confidence in the markets.
  • Canadian polls still showing Conservative majority possible
Prime Minister Harper has suggested he may resign as party leader if the Tories lose the election but that seems as a remote possibility following the most recent poll by Canadian Press Harris-Decima. Conservatives lead the Liberals by 10 points at 35% with the NDP at 18%. The fluctuation of polls and the madness of all campaigns will result in a wild finish down the stretch.
  • American space tourist launches off in Russian rocket
Computer game millionaire Richard Garriott has fulfilled his dream of going into space as he took off from Kazakhstan on Sunday for the international space station. Fee: 30 million US dollars. Impressive!
  • World Cup qualifiers deliver few surprises
The only notable semi-surprise can be considered when Italy was held to a 0-0 draw in Sofia by Bulgaria. Romania also drew 2-2 in Constanta with France after giving up a 2-0 lead. The Faroe Islands surprisingly drew with Austria 1-1 further complicating the group that also includes Serbia, who easily won 3-0 against group leaders Lithuania. England trashed Kazakhstan 5-1 at New Wembley with Rooney grabbing man of the match honors and bagging a brace. The Czech Republic lost a match many believe it should have won, losing 2-1 to home team Poland. Spain, Germany, Greece, and the Netherlands secured easy victories.
  • Hamilton’s lead in F1 driver’s standings drops to 5 following Fuji race
The race finished with Alonso taking the win, Kubica in 2nd and Raikkonen in 3rd. Lewis Hamilton dropped to 12th but Massa finished 7th, cutting Hamilton’s overall lead to 5 points with 3 races left. Ferrari now lead the team standings by 7. Should be a good finish to the season!
